Hackergal Hackathon

I was very fortunate to be able to help plan the Hackergal Hackathon on Wednesday December 13th, 2017 at my school. The Hackergal Hackathon helps introduce and inspire girls to coding and hopefully begin to equalize the gender divide in tech industry.

The Hackergal Hackathon has groups of 2-3 girls working together to plan, write and play a game all within a couple of hours. The girls worked really well together and created some amazing games and stories.

Teaching is the hardest career. Every day and year are so different since techniques and your students are constantly changing. You can never get ahead. My blog is a way to communicate what I’m thinking, learning about or questioning. I love sharing what I’m learning so it will help others or start a discussion. Never did I think that people would really read my blog or learn from me. I’m extremely blessed. I just found this amazing review of my site and am blown away by the author’s thoughts.
Thank you so much!

Get Connected – ETFO Summer Academy Presenter

Last year at this time, I was registering to attend ETFO’s Summer Academy workshop but now I am a presenter! I am so excited for this huge honour!

My 3 day workshop is called Get Connected-Professionally and in your Classroom for Grades Kindergaten to Grade 8.

Here is the caption:

Do you want to break down the walls of your classroom and introduce your students to the world? Join us for this interactive three-day workshop that will provide participants tools to create their own Personal Learning Network and to use in their classroom. Some of the tools we will be learning about are: Twitter, blogs, Skype, global projects, and Google Apps for Education. Participants will have the opportunity to create a twitter account, blog, and Skype account. They will also leave with many ways to connect their classroom and many resources they can confidently use in the new year.

Participants must bring their own laptop or Chromebook with Wi-Fi capabilities. Participants are encouraged to have a Google Apps for Education or Gmail account.

It will be taking place on July 14th, 15th and 16th in Renfrew.

Please let me know if you have any questions or presentation tips.
