Kid President’s T-shirt Competition with Threadless

My class and I have been following Kid President and his inspirational videos for a couple weeks. The students have also written a post about something awesome that they are going to do for someone else, based on Kid President’s video.

When I heard about the T-shirt competition I knew we have to do it. I prepped the class by brainstorming what Kid President, since he is the judge, is all about. We also created a criteria for what makes a good t-shirt.

Unfortunately, I realized that you basically need to have taken school for Graphic Design to create this t-shirt and there was no way we could actually compete. I decided to do it anyway. The students did a rough copy of their t-shirts and then we made them in Google Drawing. This was our first time using Google Drawing and they did such a great job with it.

Kid President: I really hope you check out this post and please tweet us at @ClassCollect or email me at classcollective@gmail.com to let me know what you thought. The students would be THRILLED to get a response from you.

Here are their t-shirt designs:

KidBlogs: A HUGE SUCCESS

Today I introduced KidBlogs to my class. To give you some background knowledge: they are Grade 6,7,8 students who are very low and have behaviour issues.

Kid Blogs was a HUGE HIT.  I wrote a blurb about how they are all going to become bloggers and I told them what a blog what. One student yelled out “YES!” I was thrilled. We only have 50 minutes to set up 15 accounts. My goal of the day was to get them to update their password, choose a theme and then write a post about their favourite things in list format.  They were so patient and excited about it. Most of them finished their post and then they went crazy commenting on others posts. I really wanted to make sure this group kept their posts as well as their comments APPROPRIATE. We reviewed this poster.

I put thier blogs on lockdown. Which means that every post and comment goes through me first to make sure it is appropriate and follows the above rules. This turned out not to be a problem at all.

The students went home and did more posting at home. One student even showed her father and he posted!

I’m going to use their blogs as a journal. I’m going to show them you tube videos, pictures or articles and they are going to respond to them and then comment on others.

I would really encourage anyone else to try this! I’m so excited!

I’m so excited for tomorrow to get my students started with KidBlogs! Please cross your fingers for me that it goes well.

Tried out the get to know you snowball fight. It was so much fun and the students LOVED it! Teaching is the best job in the world!
